Immigration Law, Criminal Law

“Crimmigration” The Intersection of Criminal and Immigration 102

Description:

In a global economy, the practice of law challenges us to competently represent foreign nationals. Criminal attorneys are increasingly faced with issues dealing with the intersection of criminal law and immigration law. This two-part series will survey basic and complex issues every criminal lawyer must understand to adequately assist non-citizen clients. Due to the complexity of the issues, the presenters urge that both parts be taken.

Topics Include:

  • The Immigration Definition of “Conviction”
  • Expungements & Diversion
  • Categorical Approach & Divisible Statutes
  • Post-Conviction based on Padilla & Interpretation Issues
  • Matter of Pickering

This section was much better than the first.

Great presentation with lots of useful advice.

I think some of what was discussed was of practical assistance while some was of almost no help unless you actually practice immigration law and defend deportation actions.
