Federal Civil Rules: Review of Rules Amendments

Description:

On December 1, 2015, significant amendments to the Federal Civil Rules will take effect. The amendments include changing the definition of discoverable information in Rule 26 by eliminating the phrase "reasonably calculated to lead to the discovery of admissible evidence" and incorporating an express requirement that the discovery sought be "proportional" to the needs of the case. The amendments also address sanctions for discovery abuses, handling of electronically stored information (ESI), and other issues that frequently arise in civil litigation. This program will include speakers who participated in the rule making process. The program will explore the text of the Rules and amendments, the practical implications of the amendments, and expected future developments.
