Entertainment Law

Entertainment and Sports Law: Music Publishing 101

Description:

Every day, new songs are written on Music Row and all over the world. Some songs go on to be chart-topping hits and others never make it to the demo phase. For the songs that make it to the public, those who use the songs have the legal obligation to secure permission from the rights holders and have an obligation to compensate the songwriters. This discussion will focus on the royalty streams for songwriters and will look at how songwriters get paid for their work. The digital era makes music consumption and compensation even more complex.

He went way too fast on the early discussions of the copyright laws - this is Music 101, don't assume we know this.

Excellent presentation and information.

The presentation was very enlightening. This is a new area for me.

Great analysis of streaming/digital rights fees.

The visuals in Mr. Barker's presentation were super helpful to me for clarity regarding the term of copyright (pre and post 1978), certain copyright recapture rules, as well as the various digital uses of copyrighted musical works.

Excellent, very informative and well-organized presentation. Slides were efficient and educational, easy to understand.

Good online presentation.

Mr. Barker was extremely competent and informative. I greatly enjoyed his lecture.

I think there may be some updates to the material based on the new modernization act going through Congress right now. I'd like to learn more about what that act will mean and what changes it will make to existing law.

Probably the most insightful CLE I have ever taken!
