Discovery: E-Discovery Overview and Rules Update

Description:

Electronic discovery is the extension of the discovery process to ESI such as through email, Word documents, and Excel spreadsheets. Recent growth in the amount of data companies use has contributed to an increased need for information governance, as high volumes of data often create litigation issues for both domestic and international companies. In response to the surge in data and e-discovery litigation, amendments to the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, which went into effect in December, have emphasized proportionality considerations. Additionally, the amendments will provide a "safe harbor" provision for companies who lose relevant ESI due to negligence rather than intentional acts. The speaker will discuss the 2015 discovery amendments.
