That unique numbers associated with medical devices can be PHI because those numbers can be traced back to a particular patient.

- Good review of examples of HIPAA violations that may not have been foreseen by the health entities or practitioners.

I didn't know a lot of this, and while my practice doesn't deal with this much it was still interesting to apply to life in general.
