Entertainment & Sports: Getting a Piece of the Pie

Description:

The entertainment industry serves a diverse group of clients, whose income and expertise levels range from novice starving artists, to sophisticated top earners. Additionally, an entertainment law practice can range from complex and unpredictable intellectual property litigation to more routine transactions. As a result, attorneys practicing in the entertainment industry are often asked to use alternative fee arrangements.  This panel will explore the ethical and practical considerations of alternative fee arrangements and discuss solutions to meet clients’ needs while retaining the value of attorney’s legal services.

Very interesting for someone like me who is exploring this type of practice area

That the context of the reasonableness of fees - regardless of the format - is critical to a determination of their reasonableness

I learned about the in and outs of different fee arrangements.

I enjoyed hearing more about how our fees should be structured, and think we may have in fact been under utilizing tools available to us to make the firm more profitable, while still being fee conscious for our clientele.

Very knowledgeable and relevant information

I learned that the attorney needs to be careful when looking at alternative fee arrangements with artists. Also there needs to be a high degree of care taken to disclose to the client prior engagements which may have an effect on the attorney's ability to represent the client in certain venues

Good information on fee structure arrangements in this topic.

Even though this is an area that most attorneys deal with on a regular basis, the methods don't often get this type of review. Some of the more novel approaches were also of interest, as well as the entertainment/sports related aspects.
