The Evolution of Lawyer Competence in the New Normal

Description:

Tennessee lawyers -- especially those at small firms -- are finding the new normal to be a challenging place to practice. New economic realities, greater competition from non-traditional service providers, advances in technology, increasing risks and threats to client information -- are all creating disruptions to the legal profession.

Logic suggests, and reality confirms, that those law firms struggling to compete in this quickly changing legal market will face economic pressures that will expose them to disciplinary action or worse. To survive, lawyers must embrace a philosophy of continual learning to acquire the business knowledge and skills needed to be successful as the legal industry continues to evolve. This course will help you plot your course now and begin working toward being the competent lawyer you want to be in the new normal.

The course gave me a fresh perspective on lawyer competence, the importance of written policies and procedures in small law firms, and the evolution of minimum legal performance standards from CPR to RPC and the new normalcy.
