Biography

Tim is counsel to the firm of Schulman, LeRoy & Bennett, P.C. in Nashville and is currently serving as the Chair of the TBA Construction Law Section for 2014-2015. His practice is focused on construction law and litigation with an emphasis on the representation of specialty trade contractors; however, he has represented clients at all levels of the construction delivery process in litigation, mediation, and arbitration of disputes, including mechanics lien and bond claims, delay and defect claims, bidding, scheduling, extra work and other payment and contract issues. Tim also counsels construction industry clients on risk management, contract drafting and contractor licensing issues. He regularly writes and speaks on topics related to construction law before attorneys and construction industry groups as well as clients. Presentations have included: "Contractual Limitations on Liability for Payment" (TBA 2012), "Construction Lien and Payment Law in Tennessee" (Lorman 2006-2012), "Building Smart in Tough Economic Times" (AGC of Middle Tennessee 2009), "Getting Paid in a Tough Economy" (ABC 2010), Tennessee's Revised Construction Lien Law - Who is Entitled to a Lien" (TBA 2008) "Advanced Construction Law in Tennessee" (NBI 2003) and "Construction Payment Remedies in Tennessee" (NBI 2003). A recent article of interest is "Top Ten Mistakes Leading to Loss of Lien Rights in Tennessee." Tim is a member of the American Bar Association, Forum on the Construction Industry, the Tennessee Association of Construction Counsel and the Tennessee Bar Association.
