Biography

Hon. James L. Croom was appointed to the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Tennessee on March 20, 2013. Prior to his appointment, Judge Croom served as the Assistant United States Attorney for the Western District of Tennessee. Judge Croom's chambers and courtroom are located in the Districts Eastern Division at Jackson, Tennessee. Judge Croom received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with a major in Accounting from the University of Tennessee (Martin) with high honors in 1983. He received his J.D. law degree from the Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law at Memphis State University in 1986. Judge Croom served as an Estate Administrator for the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Tennessee in 1987 until his appointment as an Attorney/Advisor in the Office of the United States Trustee for Region Eight in 1988. After serving in this capacity for seven years, Judge Croom was appointed Assistant United States Attorney for the Western District of Tennessee in 1995 where he served until his Judicial appointment. Judge Croom represented various federal agencies in civil matters before the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Tennessee, United States District Court for the Western District of Tennessee, and the Second, Fifth & Sixth Circuit United States Courts of Appeal. He also prosecuted criminal cases before the United States District Court for the Western District of Tennessee and the United States Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.
