Biography

Judge Alexander received her B.A. degree in English from Middle Tennessee State University and her JD from the Nashville School of Law. She was licensed to practice law in 1988.

She has received extensive training in judicial practice from the National Judicial College having completed courses in Administrative Law: Fair Hearing and Administrative Law: High Volume. In addition, she has been trained to hear cases brought pursuant to the IDEA and is a Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 31 Dual Trained Civil and Family Mediator. Judge Alexander began her career as a state employee with the Tennessee General Assembly while attending law school. She then began work with the Tennessee Department of Labor where she participated in the development and implementation of the Benefit Review Program created by the Tennessee General Assembly in 1992. It was here that she became an accomplished mediator. She also served as the legislative liaison for the department as well as an Administrative Judge for the Nashville Electric Service.

In 2001, she was appointed as an Administrative Judge by the Secretary of State where she remained until August 2014. On August 8, 2014, she was elected to serve as Municipal/General Sessions Judge for the Town of Smyrna.

Judge Alexander is a member of the faculty of the Nashville School of Law where she is an instructor in Administrative Law. She is member of the Rutherford-Cannon County Bar Association, the Smyrna Lions Club and a consumer member of Smyrna Independent Merchant’s Association (SIMA). Alexander is also an adult literacy tutor for the Rutherford County Read to Succeed Program. Married to Neil Alexander, together they have a son, Joshua and a daughter, Tori.
