Biography

Mary Bers graduated from IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law in 1988.  She worked as counsel to the Chancellors in the Davidson County Chancery Court, and then practiced in a private insurance defense firm in Nashville before joining the Office of the Attorney General.

Since 1994, Ms. Bers has worked in the Tennessee Attorney General's Office, specializing in civil rights and tort litigation.  She has represented a wide range of state employees from most of the departments in both federal and state courts.  Ms. Bers has also represented the State in negligence claims filed in the Tennessee Claims Commission - but even those can require participation by one or more state employees as "main state witnesses" in the defense.

Ms. Bers and her husband have two grown sons.  She enjoys biking, hiking, and kayaking.
