Biography

Sara L. Hall has been Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel of ALSAC, the fundraising and awareness organization for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, since October 2010. Since joining ALSAC, Sara has restructured and adapted the legal team to regularly anticipate and meet the future needs of the largest healthcare nonprofit and oversee the trademark and brand protection activities for one of the most trusted brands, St. Jude. Sara oversees a number of areas outside traditional in-house legal roles including the largest bequest program in-house with significant revenue responsibilities, one of the largest property and complex assets acceptance programs, and St. Jude campus acquisitions and land use, including regulatory, governmental and environmental relationships and approvals.

Sara’s creative wins include overseeing the St. Jude national sweepstakes, legal and risk strategies for the civilian seats given away for the Inpiration4 first civilian space mission announced during the Superbowl™ which included a patient-provider panel as well as the minting of an NFT from space. This campaign raised over $200M for St. Jude. Sara also oversees ALSAC and St. Jude’s property acquisitions and land-use planning that has helped fuel the largest St. Jude campus expansion in history. Through her relationships and regulatory knowledge, Sara obtained over $60M in State and local grant dollars not traditionally available to nonprofits for infrastructure improvements on the St. Jude campus. After spearheading changes to state and local laws to enable community action against blighted properties and creating community-lead tax increment finance (“TIF”) district opportunities, Sara served as the lead applicant for the first Memphis community-obtained TIF bringing approximately $96M in blight elimination funding to the area surrounding the St. Jude campus.

Sara was chosen for the inaugural Power 100 by the Memphis Business Journal (“MBJ”) 2019, 2021, 2022, 2024 and 2025; the inaugural Best of the Bar In-House Counsel by MBJ 2015; and Top 40 under 40. Sara has served on numerous local nonprofit boards and the international board of the Association of Corporate Counsel. Sara currently serves on the Innovate Memphis Board, MIFA (Metropolitan Inter-Faith Association) Board where she is on the executive committee and serves as counsel, and the UT College of Liberal Arts Advisory Board. Previously Sara served as the City of Memphis City Attorney, Human Resources Director, and Pension Board Chair as well as the Vice-President and General Counsel of the Memphis Airport Authority in addition to law firm and academic medical center experience. Sara enjoys travel and is a 30 year advanced Yoga Alliance certified yogi. She has two adult children Allison (26) and Colin (23).
