Biography

Jeannette Smith Tysinger has a diverse practice emphasizing estate planning and administration, real estate and development, business and nonprofit organizational and operational matters, contracts (employment and business), tax matters, and business immigration. Jeannette graduated from the University of Tennessee (B.B.A. in Accounting), Samford University – Cumberland School of Law (J.D.) and East Tennessee State University (MBA) and served as a volunteer and board member with various charitable organizations. While Jeannette grew up in southeast Tennessee, she has made her home in the northeast Tennessee area since 1997 and enjoys the unique beauty of this region.

Jeannette Smith Tysinger started her legal career with a title company in Birmingham, Alabama, while in law school, working with residential and commercial lending institutions. Jeannette also interned with both the District Court of Jefferson County, Alabama, and the U. S. Attorneys’ Office for the Northern District of Alabama in both their criminal and civil divisions. After moving back to Tennessee, Jeannette’s practice quickly evolved to include more complex real estate matters, tax, corporate and business matters, nonprofit matters, tax-exempt status and tax workouts, and estate planning and administration. Jeannette worked with an estate and tax planning and business law boutique firm for almost 15 years prior to coming to Hunter, Smith & Davis, LLP in 2011.

Jeannette has worked extensively in providing guidance in start-up, tax and employment compliance, non-SEC mergers and acquisitions, and business succession and termination issues for small and medium-sized businesses. Her current practice also emphasizes estate planning for individuals and families planning for their future retirement, including revocable and irrevocable trusts, specialized trusts, asset protection trusts, tax planning trusts, and/or trusts for charitable endowments or scholarships. Jeannette has also assisted businesses in the area with the use of PILOT and incremental tax financing programs and environmental compliance with TDEC Brownfield programs.

Jeannette is a member of the Washington County and Tennessee Bar Associations, including serving on the Executive Board of the TBA Tax Section. She provides seminars on various estate planning, business and tax topics for other attorneys, small business organizations, and the general public. Jeannette also enjoys several outdoor activities that northeast Tennessee has to offer with her family, including, kayaking, hiking and mountain biking.
