Biography

Chancellor E. G. Moody was born and raised in Cooks Valley near Kingsport. 

He graduated from Blountville High School; he attended Berea College; and he graduated from East Tennessee State University and the University of Tennessee College of Law.

He practiced law in Kingsport with Hawkins, Moody, Bingham and Miller for 35 years.  He held the highest rating available for both legal ability and ethics for many years by Martindale-Hubbell.

He was elected Judge or Chancellor of the Chancery Court in 2006 and again in 2014.  He has seven years left on his second term.

He is married to the former Mary Frances Wolford whose ancestors (Steeles) settled the Steele Creek area of Bristol, Tennessee where they have lived for approximately 25 years.

Chancellor Moody has been active in community service for many years by providing pro bono legal services to several non-profit organizations.  He was the lawyer for the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Mounted Patrol and Canine Unit.  He was legal counsel for the Shriner’s Jericho Temple.  He was former Chairman of the Board of Directors of The Crumley House Brain Injury Rehabilitation Center where he is currently a member of the Board of Directors.  He is Vice President and a member of the Board of Directors of the Carriage Association of America.

His hobbies are farming and carriage driving.  He raises beef cattle and Morgan horses.
