Biography

Mr. Secor returned to the private practice of law, joining the Law Firm of Thomas & Thomas June 1, 2018.  Before returning to private practice he worked with the Trust Departments of SunTrust Bank, CapitalMark Bank & Trust, now Pinnacle Bank, and Southeastern Trust Company, a division of FSG Bank, now Atlantic Capital Bank,.  Prior to starting a banking career in March of 1995, he was in the private practice of law for 29 years emphasizing probate and estate planning and state and federal taxation.  He received his B.B.A. in Accounting in 1963 and a J.D. in 1966 from Emory University and his L.L.M. in Taxation from New York University in 1968.  He is the author of the Tennessee Probate, The West Group, 1979, Third Edition 2013 and author of Tennessee Elder Law, The West Group, 2009.  Mr. Secor is a frequent speaker on Estate Planning and Estate Administration topics to the Bar and other organizations.  He is a member of the American, Tennessee and Chattanooga Bar Associations; a past President of the Estate Planning Council of Chattanooga; and a fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Council.  He also serves as Chairman of the Tennessee Probate Study Group.
