Biography

Joel D. Roettger is a shareholder in the law firm of Gentry, Tipton & McLemore, P.C., in Knoxville, Tennessee. He focuses his practice on wills, estates, and trusts.  He represents individuals, entities, and charities in the areas of estate planning, estate administration/probate, trust law, taxation, business succession planning, tax-exemption issues and charitable giving.  He received his B.S. summa cum laude, and his J.D., cum laude, from The University of Tennessee and his Master of Law (LL.M.) in Taxation from The University of Florida.  Mr. Roettger speaks frequently on issues related to estate planning and estate administration.  Mr. Roettger is a member of the Knoxville, Tennessee, and American Bar Associations and the Knoxville Estate Planning Council (Board of Directors since 2010). He has been recognized by Mid-South Super Lawyers as a Rising Star" (2009 - 2012, 2014) and has been named as a "Top Attorney" by Cityview Magazine since 2010, most recently in the categories of Estate Planning/Trusts, Taxation, and Wills/Probate. In 2013, he was certified by the Tennessee Commission on Continuing Legal Education and Specialization as an Estate Planning Law Specialist.
