Biography

Working primarily with publicly traded real estate investment trusts (REITs) and commercial real estate owners, Gil Uhlhorn advises clients on the acquisition, disposition and financing of real estate assets. He also assists with long-range planning, leasing and day-to-day issues encountered by owners of real estate. In the past five years alone, Gil has assisted public and private clients in more than $2.5 billion worth of commercial transactions and more than $6.5 billion in financing transactions.
In addition to REITs, Gil represents local, regional and national business owners and developers on real estate and corporate matters, and also serves in the capacity of outside general counsel to several smaller companies, advising on a variety of business-related legal matters. His practice includes:
-Real Estate - Representing clients in the acquisition, development, financing, ownership, operation and disposition of various real estate projects, including multi-family properties, shopping centers, hotels, office buildings, and industrial buildings; representing commercial and residential developers in development transactions and financings; and, representing landlords and tenants in office, retail and industrial leases, subleases and ground leases.
-REITs - Working with traded and non-traded REITs in the acquisition and disposition of commercial properties and in the negotiation of credit facilities with institutional lenders and agencies for the purchase and financing of such properties.
-Financial Transactions - Representing borrowers and lenders in a variety of real estate and asset-based loan transactions, including loan participations, defeasance transactions and credit enhancements on bond transactions.
Gil helps clients assess the monetary values of business risks that are typically difficult to quantify, guiding them through often complex business issues that are driving their legal needs.
