Biography

Jeff Cherry obtained his B.S. from Middle Tennessee State University in 1990 and his Juris Doctorate from the Nashville School of Law in 2001. Mr. Cherry was admitted to the Tennessee Bar in 2001.

Mr. Cherry is a member of the Nashville, 15th Judicial District, Tennessee, and American Bar Associations. Mr. Cherry is also a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the American Association for Justice, and the Tennessee Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. The TACDL recently awarded Mr. Cherry their 2015 Workhorse Award for the extensive work he has done for the organization.

Mr. Cherry served the citizens of Nashville as a sworn police officer, having graduated from the Metro Nashville Training Academy in 1991 ranking second in his class and having won the TOP GUN award. Mr. Cherry was certified as a trainer of police officers by, P.O.S.T., Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission. He taught law at the Metro Nashville Training Academy to a number of recruit classes and held annual inservice training for veteran officers.

Prior to assignment at the Police Training Academy, Mr. Cherry served in Patrol, the Crime Suppression Unit, the Crime Prevention Division and the Legal Resource Division.  He was on three occasions awarded the Exemplary Service Award for his daily commitment to excellence in carrying out his assigned duties.

Mr. Cherry handles criminal cases throughout the counties of middle Tennessee.  He regularly handles driving under the influence cases and enjoys great success in representing clients with driving offenses.  He successfully defends those charged with sexual offenses and is currently abreast of the rules and regulations of the Tennessee Sex Offender Registry.

Mr. Cherry regularly represents those that have been convicted of criminal offenses before the Tennessee Court of Criminal Appeals.  In 2012, he was successful in reversing a criminal conviction and a twenty-four year sentence at the Court of Criminal Appeals.  Permission to Appeal was not requested by the State.

Mr. Cherry also handles complex personal injury matters involving all manner of injury.  In 2009, he negotiated a $1,000,000.00 settlement in a personal injury wrongful death case in Wilson County, Tennessee.  In that same year, he also negotiated a $600,000.00 settlement of a middle Tennessee personal injury matter.  In 2011, he negotiated the lump sum settlement of over $150,000 in a workers' compensation case in Wilson County and in 2012 he negotiated a lump sum settlement of over $200,000 in a workers' compensation case.  He regularly works to ensure that his personal injury clients receive the maximum benefit under the law.

He is married to Stacey Bradford Cherry and has three children.  He loves hunting, fishing, working on his farm and spending time with his family.
