Faculty Profile: Mary Beth Hagan

Mary Beth Hagan is an experienced litigator who focuses her practice assisting clients in the construction industry, advising small to medium sized business owners and managers, and representing clients with real estate or other civil legal matters. Ms. Hagan began her practice in a large law firm in downtown Nashville where she learned the value of quality legal work, zealous representation, and a straightforward attitude with her clients. Litigation is seldom an enjoyable endeavor for people, but Ms. Hagan strives to guide clients through the stress and uncertainty of the legal system. Her goal is to explain the process so her clients can navigate through and reach for their goals. Ms. Hagan keeps her clients' goals at the center of her litigation strategy.

Ms. Hagan has spent years advocating for a wide range of players in the construction industry. She has experience representing contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, small to medium-sized business owners, homeowners, and commercial property owners. Ms. Hagan is a proven leader among attorneys in the construction law field. She is the first female to serve as Chair of the Tennessee Bar Association's Construction Section and to serve on the Board of the Tennessee Association of Construction Counsel - an organization for attorneys who devote much of their time to this industry.  Likewise, Ms. Hagan is active in the American Bar Association's Forum on Construction Law. She routinely speaks for these organizations on issues important to the construction industry.

Ms. Hagan has been a trained arbitrator with the American Arbitration Association since 2009. She is currently trained as an arbitrator on the Commercial Fast-Track and Consumer Panel. Ms. Hagan is a listed Rule 31 Mediator.

Ms. Hagan's achievement is unparalleled. She graduated in the top five percent of her law school class at the University of Tennessee College of Law, earning membership into the prestigious Order of the Coif. During her time in school, she served as the Executive Research Editor on the Tennessee Law Review and chaired the Speaker Series, an organization devoted to educating the student body through engaging programs on leading issues. Ms. Hagan was recently honored as one of the University of Tennessee's Ten Alumni in Ten Years by the College of Law. High achievement was her goal throughout her academic career, graduating summa cum laude from Tennessee Technological University and as valedictorian from Fairview High School. She carries that high work ethic and achievement into the courtroom or arbitration room each and every time.
