Bruce E. Buchanan is Special Counsel at Littler Mendelson’s Nashville, Tennessee office. Bruce counsels employers on immigration compliance issues, conducts internal I-9 audits, represents employers in U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) inspections/audits and Immigrant and Employee Rights (IER) investigations, and employment-based visas. Also, Bruce practices labor law where he represents employers before the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), in collective bargaining, and before the U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage & Hour Division.
Prior to joining Littler, Bruce was at three other law firms in Nashville, where he practiced immigration law and labor law. Prior to entering private practice in 2003, Bruce was a senior trial specialist for the NLRB for 20 years.
Bruce is a frequent speaker on immigration compliance and labor law before numerous organizations, including American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), Associated General Contractors (AGC), Tennessee Bar Association (TBA), SHRM, and American Payroll Association. He also frequently writes on immigration compliance issues. Bruce is the long-time editor of TBA’s Labor & Employment Law Section Newsletter and serves on AILA’s Verification & Documentation Liaison Committee.
For 12 years, Bruce served as Adjunct Professor at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock William H. Bowen School of Law. He is also the past-chair and past editor of TBA’s Immigration Law Section. Bruce received his J.D. from Vanderbilt University School of Law in 1982 and his B.S., magna cum laude, from Florida State University in 1979.
