Biography

Rachel Newton is a 2003 graduate of the Saint Louis University School of Law, where she was Editor in Chief of the Saint Louis University Public Law Review. She is a lifelong resident of the State of Tennessee and a career public servant. Ms. Newton began her career as an Assistant District Attorney for the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office, where she served for eight years, spending most of her time prosecuting violent crimes and drug offenses. She then served as an Assistant General Counsel for the Comptroller of the Treasury, practicing administrative law among other specialties. She is currently an Assistant Attorney General for the Tennessee Attorney General and Reporter. In addition to specializing in employment law, she continues her interest in administrative law by representing state agencies in petitions for judicial review of administrative decisions and reviewing proposed administrative rules. Ms. Newton obtained her undergraduate degree from the University of Tennessee. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, yoga, creative writing, and photography.
