Faculty Profile: Dan Dixon

Dan Dixon has been a music copyright consultant for over twenty-two years—seventeen of which were in close association with the late Dr. Earl V. Spielman, founder of Copyright Infringement Consultants and one of the foremost forensic musicologists in the world. Through his activities as an amateur and professional musician, and through his academic and independent scholarly interests, Mr. Dixon has performed, arranged, transcribed, analyzed, and studied thousands of musical works in myriad genres and styles. His years working alongside Dr. Spielman provided Mr. Dixon the opportunity to study first-hand the complex and often bewildering intersection of music, business, and law. His experiences have provided him with a comprehensive, multidisciplinary understanding and expertise that uniquely qualify him for his work in the field of forensic musicology.

Currently, Mr. Dixon is owner of Dan Dixon Musicology. Mr. Dixon has rendered hundreds of written comparative musicological analyses, professional opinions, and music research reports, and has provided expert musicology services to leading IP/entertainment law firms, advertising agencies, and music and motion picture production companies worldwide.
