Biography

Honorable M. Ruthie Hagan was sworn in as United States Bankruptcy Judge for the Western District of Tennessee on October 16, 2020.
 
Before her judicial appointment, Judge Hagan served in the Bankruptcy and Commercial Restructuring group of Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz, P.C. While there, she primarily handled sophisticated business workouts and complex commercial bankruptcy. Prior to joining Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz, P.C. in 2010, Judge Hagan practiced bankruptcy law at the law firm of Bass, Berry & Sims, PLC in Memphis, Tennessee as an associate attorney from 2007 to 2009, and from 2004 to 2007 as an associate attorney with Quattlebaum, Grooms, Tull & Burrow, PLLC in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Judge Hagan graduated with honors from the University of Arkansas School of Law where she served as Managing Editor of the Arkansas Law Review and was the recipient of the American Bankruptcy Institute Medal of Excellence. She has a master's degree in Higher Education (University of Arkansas) and a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry (University of Kansas).
