Faculty Profile: Lauren Gaffney

Lauren Gaffney is a member at Bass, Berry & Sims in Nashville, where she advises healthcare providers on regulatory, compliance and operational matters. Her practice includes government enforcement and compliance, internal investigations, certificate of need proceedings, regulatory and administrative matters, and healthcare mergers and acquisitions. She represents hospital systems, long-term care providers, physician groups, laboratories and other healthcare organizations in navigating the complex regulatory requirements affecting their operations.

In addition to her legal practice, Gaffney has held leadership roles within Bass, Berry & Sims, including serving as the firm’s Entry Level Hiring Partner, leading intern and first-year associate recruiting across the firm, and co-chairing the firm’s Pride Affinity Group. She is a 2021 Fellow of the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity and was recognized by Mid-South Super Lawyers as a “Rising Star” from 2014–2021. Before entering the legal profession, she competed as a professional road cyclist and won a collegiate national cycling championship in 2003.

Gaffney earned her J.D. from Vanderbilt Law School in 2009, where she was elected to the Order of the Coif and served as notes editor of the Vanderbilt Law Review. She earned her B.S. from Vanderbilt University in 2003 and has been admitted to practice in Tennessee since 2009.
