Biography

Laura Deakins, a shareholder in the Memphis office, served four years as the judicial law clerk to the Honorable Holly Kirby on both the Tennessee Supreme Court and Tennessee Court of Appeals before joining Lewis Thomason. Since she has joined the firm, she has amassed a great deal of jury trial and other civil litigation experience. Ms. Deakins worked diligently in obtaining a $22 million dollar jury verdict for her clients in one of her first jury trials and has gained a great deal of appellate experience, arguing and briefing many matters before the appellate courts.  Ms. Deakins’ practice focuses primarily on the defense of corporations, doctors, and hospitals.

During law school, Ms. Deakins also served as a judicial intern to the Honorable Jon P. McCalla of the Western District of Tennessee and the Honorable Janice M. Holder of the Tennessee Supreme Court. Ms. Deakins was also the Business Editor of the University of Memphis Law Review editorial board, a research assistant, and received CALI awards in Trial Advocacy, ADR/Mediation, and Labor Law.
