Biography

Ian McFarland is an associate at Merchant & Gould's Tennessee office. Since receiving his license in 2011, Ian has focused his practice on patent and trademark prosecution, counseling, and related litigation. He is licensed to practice before the USPTO, the Tennessee Supreme Court, the Federal Circuit, the Sixth Circuit, and the Eastern District of Tennessee. 
 
Ian received his J.D. from the University of Tennessee College of Law after graduating with a B.A. in biology from the University of Missouri. While in law school, he was a member of the Tennessee Law Review and patent law moot court team.
 
Ian emphasizes attention to detail to zealously advocate for his clients' intellectual property rights. Whether in the form of IP acquisition or litigation, achieving client objectives is extremely rewarding to Ian. Outside of his practice, Ian enjoys cooking, watching college football, and playing golf.
