Faculty Profile: Matthew Spivey

Matthew A. Spivey ("Matthew") started practicing law in Atlanta, Georgia after graduating from Emory University School of Law in 2006, with honors. Since returning to Tennessee in 2012, Matthew has been recognized by the Tennessee Bar Association through selection into the Leadership Law Class of 2014, as well as being named one of the Top 40 Lawyers Under 40 by the National Trial Lawyers and other organizations from 2014 through 2021, and a Mid-South Rising Star by Super Lawyers (2016-2021) and a Super Lawyer in the area of Criminal Defense in 2022 and 2023. In 2017, Matthew received the Massey McGee Trial Advocacy Award from the Tennessee Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers ("TACDL"). Matthew was elected to the Board of Directors for both TACDL and the Northeast Tennessee Section of the Federal Bar in 2017. Matthew is licensed to practice law in Georgia and Tennessee.
