Biography

Kelly has represented the interests of healthcare providers, hospitals, and healthcare-related businesses throughout his career. He possesses extensive experience in healthcare liability defense and is also experienced in litigating contract disputes and general commercial liability matters. In addition to his work as a litigator, Kelly assists clients in transactions, regulatory matters, and employment issues.
Born and raised on a farm in Cheatham County, Tennessee, Kelly graduated with honors from the University of Tennessee with a degree in writing. He then served five years on active duty in the United States Army, where he attained the rank of Captain and completed military assignments in both the continental United States and abroad as a member of the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment and the 2nd Infantry Division. After his military service, Kelly attended the University of Tennessee College of Law, where he won a number of awards for academic achievement. He then served two years as law clerk to Chief Judge Roderick T. Kennedy of the New Mexico Court of Appeals in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Kelly is a member of the Knoxville Bar Association, the Tennessee Bar Association, and the New Mexico Bar Association; and he has given a number of presentations on legal matters at both the local and national level. In addition, he has written a number of articles pertaining to healthcare for publications such as East Tennessee Medical News and the newsletter of the Knoxville Academy of Medicine. An avid outdoorsman and carpenter, Kelly enjoys spending time with his wife and three sons. Kelly also cares deeply about veterans' issues and is a member of the East Tennessee Historical Society.
