Faculty Profile: Elizabeth Harrell

Elizabeth Harwell serves as Operations Counsel at Community Health Systems, one of the nation’s leading operators of general acute care hospitals. She provides day to day legal advice and counsel to hospital executives and to the business leadership at CHS regarding federal and state regulatory issues, including Stark law, Anti-Kickback Statute, EMTALA and HIPAA-related matters, as well as advises on a variety of contract, acquisition and medical staff matters. Prior to CHS, Liz was a member of Alston & Bird LLP’s Government Investigations & Compliance group in Charlotte, NC, focusing on white-collar criminal defense, with a concentration on the health care industry, internal corporate investigations, and compliance program development, implementation and auditing. She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Law and holds a B.A. in both Journalism & Mass Communication and Romance Languages-Spanish from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
