Biography

Lauren H. Mutrie, MD, MSc is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and Global Health at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital where she works in both inpatient and outpatient settings.  She is involved in global health curriculum development for residents and medical students and is also the medical champion for Memphis CHiLD, a medical-legal partnership between the children’s hospital, the University of Memphis Law School, and Memphis Area Legal Services.  She previously worked as a pediatric hospitalist at Mass General Hospital in Boston in 2012; prior to that, she was a Global Health Corps pediatrician in Swaziland and Lesotho with the Baylor International Pediatric AIDS Initiative at Texas Children’s Hospital.  She completed her pediatric residency at Emory University June 2011 where she served as Assistant Program Director from 2010-2011 and as Chair of the Global Health Organization of Pediatrics at Emory from 2008-2011.  Her academic interests are in global pediatric and maternal-child health, HIV, TB, orphan health, malnutrition, neglected tropical diseases, breastfeeding, and child advocacy.  Her clinical work and research interests have focused on improving pediatric health outcomes in resource-poor settings through provision of sustainable, evidence-based, community-driven medical services.

She attended medical school at Emory University and received her MSc in the Control of Infectious Disease from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in addition to attending the DTM&H course.  Her Masters work was completed at the Uganda Virus Research Institute in Entebbe where her research centered on an analysis of infant mortality.
