Biography

Barry-Lewis Harris II, MD is a recognized leader with academic acumen and professional expertise in various facets. He has been responsible for improvements in clinical care delivery, quality metrics, development, health information management with product system go-live implementation, and patient-centered medical home establishment (PCMH).

Prior to joining Common Table Health Alliance, Dr. Harris has had a wide array of practice and leadership experience. Dr. Harris served as a co-chair of the CTHA Advisory Committee. He has led a diversified family medicine group, directed an Acute Inpatient Detoxification Unit, and served as the Medical Director for a Long Term Acute Care Facility and Nursing Home Center. Dr. Harris was selected to be Chief of Medicine and Chief of Staff at a private for-profit hospital. Within the Veterans Healthcare System, Dr.. Harris was selected to serve as Chief Medical Officer of Primary Care and Chief of Staff. Most recently, Dr. Harris was Chief Medical Officer with a Federally Qualified Healthcare Center. He has also maintained his own independent consulting practice.

Dr. Harris possesses essential experience in leadership, advocacy, health policy, culturally competent medical care, and organizational excellence. He is a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Martin where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. He obtained his Doctorate of Medicine at East Tennessee State University and completed his residency at Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee in the studies of Family Medicine. Additionally, Dr. Harris has been inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He currently serves on the National Quality Forum's Health & Wellness Committee, BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee's Health Disparities Committee, and the ACE Awareness Foundation's Policy Committee.

His community involvement includes membership in Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity, "Delta Boule", as well as a Life Member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, where he serves as Tennessee's Executive Director. He is also a member of Leadership Memphis' 2017 Executive Class.
