MariettaShipley retired in September 2006 as the judge of the Second Circuit Court in Nashville having presidied over civil jury and non-jury trials for 16 years. She is presently the President of The Mediation Group of Tennessee, LLC , where she and others do mediations, arbitrations, and collaborative law, www.marietta@mariettashipley.com.
During her tenure as judge she served on the ADR Commission, was a member of the National Mass Torts Committee ,and was a Parenting Plan Legislation Pilot Judge. She presided over numerous settlement and status conferences in civil and family cases. She served on the Appellate Mediation Task Force and presently serves on the Mediation Committee of the Pro Se Access to Justice Committee. She founded and is past- President of The Tennessee Association of Professional Mediators. In 2010 she received a Public Service Award for Contribution to the Mediation Field by the Tennessee Coalition of Mediation Associations.
She is a frequent presenter at NBA, TBA, NBI, TAJ , M. Lee Smith and IMLA, Municipal Attorneys seminars and a past trainer for Rule 31 Family Mediation Training at Lipscomb University.
She is a founding member of Middle Tennessee Collaborative Alliance and Training chair. She is the Co-Chair of the Tennessee Bar Association Taskforce on Collaborative Practice.
She is married to Dr. David McMillan, a psychologist, who also mediates cases, coaches in collaborative cases and serves as a parent coordinator.
