Biography

JAMES R. MULROY II is the former General Counsel for Youth Villages Inc. and now is in a Senior Consulting position. He was formerly Managing Shareholder of the Memphis, TN office of Jackson Lewis P.C. Mr. Mulroy has more than 40 years of trial and litigation experience in federal and state trial and appellate courts as well as before administrative judges and tribunals. He has represented clients in dozens of labor and employment, civil rights, unfair trade practices and public accommodation cases as well as a variety of class actions and multi-party lawsuits.
Mr. Mulroy regularly counsels clients on a broad spectrum of employment-related issues, including employment and separation agreements, personnel policies and handbooks, EEO training, FLSA and FMLA compliance, restrictive covenants, and reductions-in-force.
Mr. Mulroy is admitted to practice before the state courts of Arkansas, Tennessee, Illinois and Mississippi. He is also admitted to practice before various federal district courts, nine United States Courts of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court. He is an active member of the American Bar Association's Section on Labor and Employment Law (Litigation Section), Defense Research Institute's Labor and Employment Law Committee and the Tennessee and Mississippi Bar Associations.
Mr. Mulroy received his J.D. degree from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 1975. He received a B.A. degree in 1971 from Rhodes College and an M.B.A. degree from the University of Memphis in 1988. Before entering private practice, Mr. Mulroy served as a trial attorney with the U.S. Navy JAG Corps. (CDR USN-R-R)
Mr. Mulroy has been included in Best Lawyers of America from 2005-2020 . He is also a fellow at the College of Labor and Employment lawyers. Mr. Mulroy has been rated AV by Martindale Hubbell and a Preeminent Lawyer since 2003 with a client satisfaction rating of a 5.0 (on a scale of 1 to 5). Mr. Mulroy has been named as a "Tennessee Top 100" since 2011 by Mid-South Super Lawyers, a publication for which he has been included in their Super Lawyers selection since 2006. Mr. Mulroy is included as a "Leader in the Field" in Tennessee in Labor and Employment Law in the current edition of Chambers USA.
