Faculty Profile: Russell Jones Jr

Russell A. Jones, Jr. is an entertainment lawyer based in Nashville, Tennessee. Upon graduation from law school, Mr. Jones served for five years as ASCAP's Nashville Director of Business Affairs.  In 1983 he began private practice on Music Row.

His forty plus years of experience has included negotiating, drafting, and implementing all forms of music publishing, recording and literary agreements, as well as representing artists, record producers, personal managers, industry executives, music publishing companies and record labels.

Mr. Jones' clients have included, Garth Brooks (#1 Soundscan Era Artist, ACM and AMA Artist of the Decade for the 90's, and the only artist in history to win seven CMA Entertainer of the Year awards and nine separate RIAA Diamond Awards), Tim McGraw (Neilson BDS most played radio Artist of the Decade for all genres 2000-2009 and most played artist on country radio for twenty years 1992-2012), Toby Keith, (Billboard #1 Country Artist and #1 Country Songwriter of the Decade 2000-2009, NSAI Songwriter/Artist of the Decade and ACA Artist of the Decade), Trisha Yearwood (winner of two CMA Female Vocalist of the Year Awards and three Grammys), Montgomery Gentry (CMA Duo of the Year), Steve Wariner, Blake Shelton, Dixie Chicks, Little Texas, Sammy Kershaw, Billy Joe Royal, Mark Chesnutt, Marty Stuart, Ronnie Milsap Music, Mel Tillis Productions, Charlie Pride Music Group, Starstruck Music (Reba McEntire), Martina McBride (winner of four CMA Female Vocalist of the Year Awards), Minnesota Fats, Moe Bandy, Peter Jenkins (author of Walk Across America) and Rudy Ruettiger (motivational speaker and former Notre Dame football player).

Mr. Jones has served as Chairman of TBA's Copyright, Entertainment and Sports Law Section, as a member of the Belmont University School of Music Business Board of Advisors, and also as a member of the adjunct faculty at Trevecca Nazarene University Department of Music.

He is continuously listed in Billboard Magazine as a Top Music Industry Lawyer and Nashville Power Player.
