Biography

Dr. Susan Tanner is an Assistant Professor of Law at the University of Louisville, Brandeis School of Law, where she teaches Lawyering Skills and a new course on Generative AI and the Law. With a J.D. from Indiana University and a Ph.D. in Rhetoric from Carnegie Mellon University, Dr. Tanner’s research focuses on the impact of AI on the legal profession, particularly regarding legal writing and ethics. She co-chairs her institution’s committee on AI and has published on machine learning biases, AI in legal writing, and the ethical use of emerging technologies. Her work draws on her experience in computational linguistics, privacy law, and her tenure at Carnegie Mellon’s CyLab Usable Privacy and Security Laboratory.
