Biography

Cited by Chambers USA for his experience and judgment handling shareholder class actions, internal investigations and healthcare fraud, Wally Dietz has more than 30 years of experience guiding his clients through complex litigation and investigations where exposure is significant. Wally has notable successes negotiating with the Department of Justice (DOJ), Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the Tennessee Attorney General and other governmental agencies, oftentimes producing a favorable result in a very short time frame. His work representing clients in connection with possible Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) violations and other anti-corruption issues has taken him to Asia, Africa, Europe and Central America.

Wally is the chair of the firm's Compliance & Government Investigations (CGI) Practice Group and serves as the firm's liaison partner for its Washington, D.C. office.  His practice includes:

  • Internal Investigations & Special Projects - Conducting internal and governmental investigations involving healthcare fraud and abuse and the FCPA and complex business and commercial litigation, including cases involving shareholder class action litigation, business torts, trade secrets, healthcare law and mergers and acquisitions.
  • Healthcare Fraud & Abuse - Representing healthcare companies facing whistleblower lawsuits under the False Claims Act (FCA) or violations of the Stark Law or Anti-Kickback Statute.
  • Shareholder Class Actions - Defends directors and officers against allegation related to fiduciary duties, waste, governance and other matters.

Prior to joining the firm, Wally served as a judicial clerk for the Honorable Thomas A. Wiseman, Jr., U.S. District Judge for the Middle District of Tennessee. Wally was also a legislative assistant and media aide to former U.S. Senator Jim Sasser.
