Workplace Bullying

Description: Workplace bullying remains a major area of concern for employers. Many employers, however, are uncertain over whether to dismiss teasing or insults as innocuous or to treat complaints of such conduct as harassment. Although anti-discrimination laws do not protect a victim who was bullied for a reason other than his/her status as a member of a protected class, employers should not ignore this conduct, as it could become the basis of an employee’s claims for negligent hiring, negligent supervision, intentional infliction of emotional distress, assault, etc. This program will cover the risks of workplace bullying and how employers can plan ahead to avoid these problems.

Some of the topics include:
- A review of some of the most recent cases related to workplace bullying
- Helpful policies to prevent and address complaints of bullying
- The growing problem of cyber-bullying in the workplace
