General Practice CLE: Handling Domestic Assault Cases

Description:

This session will cover the basics in handling a domestic assault case from start to finish. It will address the initial client interview, the review of the arrest warrant and affidavit of complaint, the review of the full police report, the interview with the officer, the interview with the victim (if they will speak with you), how to approach settlement of the case, and how to prepare for trial, if necessary.  It will also cover other considerations such as the ramifications of a domestic violence conviction for someone's gun rights, orders of protection, and how such cases can effect divorce or domestic relations' cases.  Finally, it will address any ethical considerations that might arise.

His dad sounds like a really great attorney with lots of useful tips.

Excellent practical advice on how to operate in criminal court. I would like another course by this presenter.

I found the CLE to be very informative and Mr. Ingram's practice tips helpful.

Brought new insights into how to approach DA's

This was one of the absolutely best CLE classes that I have attended since I began practicing law 7 years ago. It is definitely the best 1 hour CLE ever! I practice family and immigration law. And I have noticed a "nudging" towards filing domestic assault cases that may be unwarranted. This CLE provided the tips and tricks that I would need to truly represent and advocate for the defendant. Bravo!

This was a really good CLE. Explained how the real world works. Would be great for young lawyers to watch.

Excellent presentation!

I really appreciated this presenter's no nonsense, call it like you see it approach. He was very effective in keeping my attention and pointing out many truths that both DAs and Defense attorneys face in domestic cases.

I REALLY enjoyed this video. It was so informative yet conversational. It has made me re-think my approaches to my cases on a day to day basis- Thank you!

Good content.

Came mostly for the info on Orders of Protection. Got some good general practice pointers.

Interesting to hear about domestic violence assault cases from the perspective of the perpetrator's attorney rather than the victim.

Good stuff for we new criminal attorneys.

Great CLE for a small town private attorney that deals with many of these issues.

He was interesting.

One helpful hint that I picked up on that not only will apply to domestic violence cases, but to criminal cases in general session, is that it may help to not to discuss the case with the police officer and the district attorney before court. It may make them dig their heels in on certain issues and make things more difficult to settle a matter. I may be drawing unnecessary attention to my case by discussing it prior to court.

Would have been easier to follow along with a powerpoint or something. Just an hour long diatribe is hard to stay focused on.

Most enjoyable course because of specific anecdotes to his past cases, his father's insight. Highly recommend.
