Family Law

Family Law: Mediations Involving Kids

Description:

In this session you will learn about a Holistic approach to high conflict and Parental alienation cases from a therapist’s perspective and a personal perspective. Mediator Emily Hastings will discuss: developmental approach to decision making in child centered mediation, Components of parental alienation, and High conflict cases.

Emily is a blessing to learn under.

I deal with these issues in my practice -- but did not recognize the need to deal with them in mediation -- when I recognize one parent has been excluded, or alienated.

I can understand where Parental Alienation can be used as an argument for parents to use against each other in court, but there was not enough substance to this presentation to know when, as a mediator or as a judge, a parent's behavior may be considered more protective than alienating, such as in cases of a parent being an alcoholic or drug addict.  Would have appreciated more discussion on these types of issues, as well as how to help the children through the divorce process.
