  This program examines mentorship in the legal profession as both a leadership function and an ethical responsibility. Grounded in the Tennessee Rules of Professional Conduct and broader principles of professionalism, the session explores the duties lawyers owe to clients, colleagues, the courts, and the profession when serving as mentors or supervising attorneys.

  Participants will analyze how effective mentorship promotes ethical lawyering, supports professional service and strengthens competence, diligence, and independent judgment. The program addresses the ethical obligations implicated in supervision, delegation, confidentiality, conflicts of interest, and the cultivation of professional values. Practical guidance is offered on building structured mentoring relationships, modeling ethical decision-making, and fostering inclusive and development-oriented workplace environments.

  Through discussion and applied examples, attendees will gain tools to implement mentorship practices that reinforce ethical compliance while enhancing leadership effectiveness and long-term professional growth.

  This session explores strategies for effectively communicating and collaborating across generations within the legal profession. Led by Dr. Amy Schmisseur of Belmont University, the session examines generational characteristics, workplace expectations, communication preferences and common sources of misunderstanding. Multigenerational workplaces are now the norm. Attorneys in leadership roles must manage differing expectations around work style, feedback and communication.

  Attorneys will gain practical tools to strengthen intergenerational relationships, reduce workplace friction and foster professionalism.The program also emphasizes inclusive leadership, active listening and adaptive communication techniques designed to enhance teamwork, client relationships and assist in mentoring success.
