Criminal Law Forum: The 2023 Plea Bargain Task Force Report

Ethical and other Guiding Principles for Plea Practices
Description:

Join Belmont University College of Law professor Lucian Dervan, along with a panel of current and former state and federal prosecutors and defense attorneys, for a lively discussion of the ABA Criminal Justice Section’s Plea Bargain Task Force, the 2023 report, and the task force’s conclusions about how plea bargaining should operate and uphold every defendant’s fundamental Constitutional right to trial.

This program will address the origins of the task force, ethical considerations, and the fourteen principles that represent the task force’s conclusions and encapsulate the 2023 report’s more specific observations and recommendations about ways in which the plea bargaining system can and should be improved.

***This event will take place via Zoom Webinar with connection info sent the week of the program.***
