Join Moderator Judge Alex McVeagh and panelists Justice Sarah Campbell, Judge John W. McClarty, Judge Ana Escobar, and Judge David Veile for a one-hour conversation about their paths from first-generation lawyers to the bench.This program provides a discussion with five members of the Tennessee judiciary focusing on different pathways into the legal profession, best practices for developing professional competence and what barriers faced by first-generation attorneys. Although being a first-generation lawyer comes with unique challenges and opportunities, this session is also beneficial to enhance practical skills for all new and developing lawyers through insights on practice readiness, judicial expectations, career development, clerkships, networking, and professionalism issues.

Highlights include the panelists’ personal experiences, practical career strategies and tools for professional growth. Attendees will learn how to navigate through legal careers challenges, foster mentorship, embrace diverse voices and pursue work life balance, all while gaining actionable takeaways to apply in their own practices.
