The TBA Young Lawyers Division will host its fourth Exploration CLE series on April 16 at Long Hunter State Park in Hermitage from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. CDT. The indoor/outdoor program offers three hours of dual CLE credit and features sessions including:

"Wrong Turn: Ethics Mistakes, Violations and Consequences" by Laura Chastain of the Board of Professional Responsibility

• The presentation will cover ethical mistakes that the Board of Professional Responsibility is seeing, together with the duties violated and the consequences of those violations which have resulted in public discipline. Also included will be an ethics update from the Board of Professional Responsibility. 

"Using Emotional Intelligence to Build Resilience" by Ryan Heinl, CEO of SIY Global and Patrick Morrison of Tennessee Department of Treasury

• High-stakes work has a way of narrowing our perspective, turning challenges into threats and mistakes into indictments. In this one-hour session, drawn from SIY Global's Leading the Adaptive Shift program, you'll explore practical, neuroscience-backed skills for thinking more clearly about the challenges you face, loosening the grip of an automatically negative read on events. We'll then turn toward acceptance and self-compassion, not as soft ideas, but as tools that measurably expand your sense of available resources and steady your judgment when the stakes are high. You'll leave with a sharper way of interpreting difficulty and a more sustainable way of relating to yourself while doing demanding work.

"You Can't Bill for Wisdom: Mentorship, Ethics and the Future of the Profession" by Chris Sloan of Baker Donelson and Ross Smith of Bass Berry & Sims, in collaboration with the TBA Mentoring Committee

• This session will explore how the Tennessee Rules of Professional Conduct implicitly depend on mentorship within the profession. Rules addressing competence, supervision, communication, and succession planning all reflect the profession’s continued need for experienced lawyers to invest in the next generation.
